Wimpy’s StoryWimpy’s Seafood Cafe, which acquired its name from the loveable hamburger eating character on the cartoon Popeye, was established in 1938 as a small hamburger stand. Over the years the restaurant has grown by over 200 seats with the addition of a traditional tavern and two fireside dining rooms. The old breakfast room has become a fish market and specialty food store. The one constant has always been family ownership and a good fresh meal at a reasonable price. Originally, Wimpy’s was run by the Hostetter family of Osterville, but in 1996 after a brief closing, Larry and Karen Siscoe, along with their children Jason and Melissa decided to try their hand at the restaurant business. Previously they had owned a small fish market and catering business. Given the opportunity to expand and the challenge to resurrect a restaurant with such a wonderful tradition, Karen and Larry decided to give it a try. The attempt was an immediate success! The village was thrilled to have someone breathe life back into a restaurant that had played such an important role in its history. After eleven seasons, Karen and Larry decided it was time to hang up their hats and let the next generation step in. Jason and his wife Danielle assumed the day to day management in January 2007. Since then they have been busy updating the building in small ways in order to keep up with the times, while also maintaining the charm that everyone keeps coming back to enjoy. They are proud to serve Osterville and the surrounding communities great food and a relaxing atmosphere, and they hope to bring new ideas to the restaurant in order to keep it fresh and exciting. Wimpy’s has been very fortunate in that it has had an extremely talented and dedicated staff from the beginning. Eddie Bearse succeeded Michael O’connell as our kitchen manager since the spring of 2006 and hasn’t missed a beat. Prior to Wimpy’s, he was head chef at the famous Mitchell’s Steakhouse in Hyannis. A lifelong resident of Barnstable, Eddie has brought new energy to Wimpy’s since taking over. Our newest addition to the kitchen is Tim McDonough, who also has extensive kitchen experience. His food knowledge has brought a new dimension to Wimpy’s menu and we look forward to Eddie and Tim working together to bring new ideas to our menu. Peter Delp heads up our market. A graduate of Johnson and Wales culinary school, he has been part of the Wimpy’s family since 2001. Peter has been working hard over the past eight years to make sure that the food our customers take out of the market is fantastic. He is also responsible for the wonderful catering reputation Wimpy’s has gained over the past several years. We look forward to continuing old traditions and perhaps even starting some new ones!
